Life and Death of a Beloved Logo Design

My logo design is DeadA high quality logo design is the one with the most effective and most powerful impact on its audiences. However, even the most wonderful logos can go out of fashion and become ineffective and not so powerful sometimes.

So what are the common symptoms that can warn us about the impending death of our beautiful logo design?

  1. People start ignoring it, when asked none of your customers could identify your logo. Because they don’t remember seeing it at all, or so they believe.
  2. The message in your logo has become out dated and it is not considered cool anymore.
  3. The style and theme of your logo is old fashioned and does not reflect the progress that has been made in your particular niche of the business.
  4. Suddenly it starts looking ugly.
  5. The illustration or the message of your logo becomes inappropriate due to the cultural changes by the time.
  6. Some customers find out something offensive in your logo design.
  7. A continuous decline in your sales is also an indication of ineffective marketing and your logo could be the part of the whole reason.

So once your logo design is close to its inevitable death? Now what are your options?

Take your logo to the ER of a professional logo design company and ask them if they can put the life back into your dying logo. If the symptoms are not too strong your logo design company would suggest a few simple procedures that can save your brand identity.

If the symptoms are severe your designer might suggest you to find a replacement for your logo design. It is understandable that you might want to mourn your previous logo for a while. But don’t mourn too long because your competitors are not mourning with you and they might take away all your business with their shiny brand new logo designs.

HowTo Measure the Success of your Logo Design

Most small business owners are simple business minded people who are less interested in the artistic value of their designs than the conversion they cause. But after spending money on getting a professional logo design and web design from a professional service provider, they often wonder if it brought anything good to their business? How do you find out how effective your logo design or your web design is?

Increase in Sales
An increase in sales is the immediate effect that small businesses want to see after getting their logo design or website design. But unfortunately an increase or decline in your sales is not a sign of either the failure or success of your design, at least not immediately. Give your designs and your customers sometime to adjust and appreciate the change. Especially people take time to recognize and appreciate a logo design.

Increase in Page views
However, a perfectly well designed website would at least show you an increase in the number of page views on your website. Good navigational structure, synchronized design schemes in your logo design, brand design and your website’s theme, and better usability practices will immediately make your website more user -friendly and the result would show in your website’s statistic reports. But you need to understand that a good design alone cannot guarantee sales, you also need a great product and well written content on your website to sell your products.

Buzz among the audiences
Another good way to measure the effectiveness of your logo design is to see how people react to it. Some small businesses find it a wonderful opportunity to get customer feedback and ask their customers what they think of their new logo design. If you are using social media to market your products or brand then it is the perfect place to create buzz around your new brand design.

After Some time if your logo design is really effective you would notice growing numbers in returning customers, website visitors, and if you are using social marketing you will see that people would start responding to your updates more frequently and more genuinely. Remember, design itself alone is not the guarantee of success. It is how you implement and use your design that matters.

Tips for Quick and Original Logo Design

Designing a creative, unique and original logo design is not an easy task. It is time consuming, frustrating and sometimes exhausting. As a logo designer who believes in producing high quality designs for clients, you may come across situations where you would find yourself in a difficult position. Ideas disappear from your mind, client is too pushy not very helpful, and you can’t figure out that perfect combination for the project.

In such situations the best advise that anyone can give you is to relax, organize your thoughts and approach the project in a more semantic and well organized manner. This is how some designers at our logo design company, concentrate on their work.

Make a List of Don’ts
Lets first make a list of things that you don’t want to appear on your logo concept. Since we strive hard to come up with intelligent unique concepts for a logo design, we begin our process by looking at the logo designs of the immediate competitors of our client. Even if our client suggests that we should copy ideas from competitor’s logo design, we simply refuse to do so. We observe the ideas in these logos and make a note that we will not be using any of these ideas.

Then we take a broader approach and look at the logo designs in that particularly niche and make a list of common concepts, themes and styles in these logos. Then we add these elements to our “don’t use” list.

Coffee Logos

The List of Do’s
Let’s say we are hired to design a logo for a coffee shop and we have already added coffee beans, coffee mug, steaming mug, and other most commonly used elements to our “Avoid” list. We are now left with very little options or so you would think. But this is certainly not the case, we have much more material available to look at and inspire ourselves. We begin with the previously used marketing material by our client to pick up some common elements of style that they have already used. Like colors, fonts, theme, etc.

We also look at the marketing slogans, promotional pitches and the tone of language that our client has previously used. Sometimes client’s slogan becomes the starting point of our logo design concept.

Use Pen and Paper
We then use simple pen and paper to draw several concepts. Each one of them is rawer and rough then the other. We fill these concepts with colors using markers or pencil colors. Most often this is the point when we get the complete idea of our perfectly unique and wonderful logo design. But sometimes we also get confused when we like more than one out of these many concepts.

If the client has bought a package with unlimited concepts then we send them all concepts that we think will suite their business. Otherwise we pick the one for them and send it away.

Design Elements of Banking and Financial Logos

No one understands the significance of a Logo design more than financial institutions. Especially, large financial organizations pay special attention to their brand image and corporate identity. In this blog post we decided to look at some famous logos from banking and finance sector and describe the common elements of style in these logo designs.

Bank of America Logo

Bank of America is one of the major banks in the United States of America. Brand union is the company that designed this current visual identity for Bank of America. According to them the logo represents the landscape of America and the financial landscape. The movement of the red and blue stripes suggests progress and the promising future ahead. The combination of stripes also represents the communities across the globe collaborating for a better future. The colors Blue and Red represent the American flag.

Citi Bank Logo

Citi Bank’s current logo was designed by Paula Scher and was unveiled on February 13, 2007. The red curve above Citi represents Umbrella where “T” in citi serves as the handle for the umbrella. This umbrella represents traveler’s insurance cover. The two “I” act as strong pillars supporting the umbrella that provides shade or cover. The “C” represents the globe cut from corner.

J.P. Morgan Logo

With the assets of USD $2 trillion it is one of the largest and the most influential financial institution in the world. The logo design for JPMorgan represents the elegance, power, authority and sensibility. It already has the largest market capitalization in the world what else they need to put authority in their logo. This logo is one of the finest examples of simple logo design with elegance and style and it still gives you the sense of authority and confident.

Barclays Logo

This is the logo design of Barclays one of the most commonly known and oldest financial institutions operating today. The Eagle you see in this logo is part of their emblem since last three centuries. Despite the controversy that emerged in recent past about the Eagle in the logo. Some people protested that the eagle in the logo has Nazi connotations. According to many brand experts this should worry Barclays, even though their logo is older than the Nazi period but still they should consider rebranding it.

Conclusion:
We can add more logo designs from other major financial institutes but the above examples are enough to gather some important points about brand identity for banking and financial sector. Despite the free market economy and the global business operations you can see patriotism in these logos representing the flags of their originating countries. Also notice the symbolism in Citi, Bank of America and Barclays logo designs. Another common element is the elegance, authority and confidence that is reflected by the use of typography.
