Selecting a Logo Design Company: Hit the Bull’s-Eye

Having some good thoughts in your head, you start to look for a custom logo design company to design an out of the world logo for your business. This sound pretty good, but when you think to look for a design company, at first you open an internet browser, open a search engine, put any keyword, and hit search – what you get is a result with hundreds of websites alluring with some attractive logo and web design packages. The very next second you fall into confusion that how a business owner like me can select a best one among all these self proclaimed great logo designing companies. Naturally, as a small business owner, you most likely to have a small budget to assign for a logo and other graphic designing necessities. Therefore, you try to find the most inexpensive one; here you make a mistake.

Getting a logo design for you business doesn’t mean to go and get a logo designed from any one. Logo is a fundamental part of marketing and branding activity, therefore, it shouldn’t be overlooked. And of course, when you talk about quality, it can’t be cheap. But again it doesn’t mean if it is not cheap, it should be expensive. It is better to go with a reasonable pricing.

Price is one major factor, but along with pricing, other aspects like customer support, rounds of revisions, initial design concepts etcetera, are also very important to look at before making a final decision. Moreover, having a complete look at the portfolio of a company is crucial to find out how long a particular company is in the business and what the previous customers have said about it.

After looking at every aspect, compare companies with each other and pick out one that best suits your logo and graphic designing requirement. The final decision is obviously yours, so make sure you don’t go with a “glitter which is not gold”. After all it’s a matter of your long term brand image; hence make a wise decision after investing considerable time on decision making.

Great points here. In addition, I stress to clients that their logo is a symbol and/or word created to represent your company, not an attempt to combine every service you offer into a 1.5 inch space. Simplicity is key and more times than not, a strong “mark” will serve you well. In other words, if you own a construction company, maybe your cousin’s wife’s nephew’s elaborate drawing of a bumblebee holding a hammer, stapler and tape measure can be used in a brochure instead of your corporate identity.

Hi Scott, can see where you’re coming from especially with all these websites springing up that can supply you or your business with a logo instantly. We’ve been designing logos/corporate identities for some 25 years now and each brief we receive we see as a challenge. By that I mean the ability and constant challenge to create something as personal and representative of the company or organisation we’ve been briefed by as possible.
You only get one opportunity to get this right as the best and most memorable logos have to stand the test of time and, hopefully say something about the company it represents rather than be led by fashion. Which is precisely why ‘off the peg’ logos from these web companies may seem a good idea….until you see your logo used for another business. In terms of costs we work for some large companies, having created the Unilever Heart marque for their global ice cream business ( Walls, Good Humor, Langnese etc.) and the F1 logo seen on the winner’s rostrum at every Formula 1 Grand Prix but at the same time we’ll certainly help out with some new start up companies or individuals with little budget as it’s a good creative challenge.
I think if you ask most commited graphic designers they’ll jump at the chance to design a logo, good budget or small…especially if it stops people resorting to facile unimaginative ‘ready mades’!
