Who can deny the importance of a business card, even in this era where everything is digitized. A business card is your first impression to your prospective customer, which may become long-lasting if it is designed well. Well-designed and attractive business cards express professionalism that can click the viewer’s mind in one go. But stop! The following 8 mistakes in your business card can ruin your overall business image and can make the prospect to throw it in a trash can instead of having a business relationship.
Using a business card template
The most common mistake which is mostly done by the businesses, while designing their business cards, is the use of ready-made business card templates. Business card templates are quick and easy way to create a business card. However, the problem is, business card template cannot give a feel of uniqueness to your card. This lack of uniqueness may harm your business image, and people may perceive your business as “just another business venture”. So avoid this mistake and always keep check while your designer designs your business card.
Not using company’s logo in it
Yet very important element that should be included in your business card is your company’s logo. If you don’t use your logo in your business card, how would you show your association with your company? In order to better portray professionalism, use your company’s logo in a proper size.
Adding too many colors
Using corporate color is good, but using many other colors to just stand out in a crowd doesn’t make sense. Avoid using too many colors, as it won’t make you to look different, rather make you to look unprofessional.
Using big typeface
If you don’t want to come off as an over sleazy and cheesy, avoid using large fonts and all capital letters, particularly on the address and contact information.
Overcrowding with content
Overcrowding your business card with content, in order to provide all the information in a first go, is a false thought. Overcrowding not only makes your card to look unprofessional but also makes it difficult for a prospective customer to read the details. Hence, cut down the information to what is really necessary.
Complicated design and style
In order to stand out in a crowd; you should not make you business card overly complicated by fancy dye-cuts, extreme over size, and odd card stocks(like metal). These types of business cards are only used by such businesses that are engaged in highly creative activities. Instead, you can use custom embossing, rounded corners, or varnishes to portray more sophisticated and professional feel.
Using Low quality paper stock
Using low quality paper for your business card can only save your money, but not your reputation. Low quality paper doesn’t feel good to the hands, therefore a person, to whom you will hand over your business card, may perceive that if your card quality is poor, your services quality will also be poor.
Not updating with current details
Many a times I have come across a situation, when a person handed over his business card to me, with the old information cut down and the new information written down by pen or pencil (like phone number or address). Doing this type of activity cannot leave a positive impact in the mind of prospect. Hence, always update your business card whenever there is a change in information.

“Adding to many colors” – or “too many colors”
Great advice. Another tip I’d add is spell check – e.g. the word “crowd” does not have an “e” in it
Just thought you’d want to know as you’ve used the word twice above, and “crowed” has a different meaning than “crowd”.
You can delete my comment after you fix it – I won’t be offended! Just trying to help out a fellow blogger
Great tips though!
Great tips that should be also be seen by designers/graphic artists.
A point to add: Make the contact information visible to someone over 38. Some fancy designers use tiny pt for the “sake of the design”. Result: It’s tough to read email or phone number. Therefore, it’s an annoying effort to reach the cardholder. Counterproductive.

Misspelling: “Adding to many colors”: “to” should be “too”. Maybe add a new section: “Proofread after spell-checking”?
Cheers!
Good tips.
Thank you all for your great advices, this will make me to improve my spellings
