Is your brand identity not working? Time to re-calibrate

Posted by Ben Johnson on January - 7 - 2013

A logo is always a reflection of an individual, a small company or a huge enterprise, but what has a logo got to do with us? Simple! A logo revolves 24/7 in our heads just to recognize that individual or brand to make it memorable.People of today seek for constant change, and if a logo does not perform the task for which it was created, then it needs remodeling. If you ask from a CEO that how often do you need to calibrate (arrange, regulate) your business operations, the answer would be “the more frequent, the better”. But if you ask the same CEO about the logo and its re-design process, the answer would be, the longer the logo remains constant, the better.

Such an answer is termed as logical, because if a logo is firm in its place, it would represent that the enterprise is firm in its business transactions and is coping up well with the market trends. But if a logo of an enterprise is not working to what it was made for, then it has to be re-calibrated according to what the markets need to look at and get enticed by it.

When we say re-calibrate, it means, to re-arrange the curves and bends to make things work on the go.If some precautionary steps are followed in the logo re-calibration process, the business unit may gain more market share through an eye-catching logo re-design process. Steps are enlisted as under.

  • Your logo must communicate the market in an interactive way.
  • Think out of the box; be innovative while re-designing a logo.
  • Make yourself and your brand memorable through your logo.
  • Establish your online presence.
  • Portray your mission and vision.

I always find it very interesting to see the large brands change their logo design over time. I design lots of logos for small businesses and start-ups and always try and get the importance of a timeless logo design across. A little tweak years down the line should be enough to keep it looking fresh so avoid trendy fonts that will look dated in a few months time.

Nice posting! This is really interesting and quite useful. It is really important that your logo is easily remembered. So I guess if the logo does not perform its function, it is important to re-calibrate it.

This is a great set of guidelines for proper logo design. There are so many traps that people fall into when trying to design a logo. With social media in play, I think variants are a must these days.
