Automotive Logo Design

It’s very easy for an automotive manufacturing firm to turn metal and form plastic into various pieces to assemble a car with magnificent looks. The story of building a car doesn’t just end up with the assembly line. If a company makes and tags a car with its own name, the car will be associated with the company’s logo as well. Because it is the company’s logo that portrays the main story of the company’s existence and aim behind the whole manufacturing process.

Let’s take the example of Mercedes-Benz and its simple chromed logo.

Has anyone ever given it a thought about the logo of Mercedes-Benz; what does the three pointed star mean?

The three pointed badge of Mercedes-Benz represents its domination over three major earth sources i.e. land, air and sea.

What would you think about the simple black and white logo of BMW with it’s twin blue triangles?

This logo design is the medallion representing a propeller of a plane in motion and the white space represents the sky. But why would an automotive company relate itself to the sky and propellers? The answer is simple, during World War II; BMW used to build engines for German military planes, but now the colors of the logo are the national colors of Bavaria which has become a part of Germany.

If we look at the Olympic logo, we would say that Audi has a very similar logo design, but the simplest four circled logo of Audi has another story to tell; in1932 there were four companies which combined together into an Auto Union called DKW, Horch, Wanderer and Audi.

Let’s see what Volkswagen has to say about itself through its VW logo in white and blue.

Through this simple text based logo design, Volks mean people and Wagen means car. Simply elaborating its reliability and satisfaction level towards the people as truly made for them with the people “V” being carried in the car “W”.

The ellipses of the Toyota logo have a different story.

These 3 ellipses represent the heart of the customers, the heart of limitless power and finally the heart of technological progress. And there is not a single doubt about the reliability and affordability of Toyota as from 1936 it has had the strongest brand impact in the global market.

Keeping all of the above auto manufacturers logos in mind, it is very clear that all the automobile manufacturing firms have a story in their logo design work and these firms have the passion to work with attention to detail, to dominate the global marketplace with their mind blowing and reliable end products.

The BMW legend that you recount here is not true. The BMW logo is derived from the pattern of blue and white checkered pattern on the Bavarian flag not a spinning propeller. The false legend gained traction after it was included in a popular movie, but it is incorrect. The NY Times details the logo origin here
