Three Basic Logo Types

Different types of logo designs you must have seen in your daily life. Every logo in some way represents the brand of the company. There are many different types of logos, but 3 types are the basic in which all other diversified types come under the banner.

Text Only or Word Mark Logos:

A text only or word mark logo is consisted of the company’s name only. Actually the text of this type of logos is divided into two further types:

1. Full name of the company
2. Abbreviation or acronym of the company’s name

Word mark logos don’t include any image, just text, and this text is written with some good typeface and colors which make them unique and identifiable among all other text only logos.

Today, it is ongoing trend of having a text only logo because it is very straightforward and easily recognizable emblem. Many famous companies have rebranded their identities with word mark logos like Apple or Canon.

Examples of text only/word mark logos of some famous brands:

Symbol or Brand Mark Logos:

This type of logos contains image symbols without any text or acronym. Symbol is typically an abstract image which represents the business ideology. Brand mark or symbol logos usually have historical background or even have illustrations of its founder. The most famous brand mark of Nike is the ‘swoosh’ symbol which represents the goddess of victory.

Combination or Iconic Logos:

Blend of the word mark and brand mark creates a combination or iconic logo. Iconic logos have both the features of text and image. These types of logos are used by most of the companies to represent their company’s name and brand symbol. The world famous brands like McDonald’s or AT&T have combination logos for unique brand identity.
