10 Great Strategies for Content Marketing

Posted by Ben Johnson on February - 12 - 2013

Content marketing is a form of marketing which involves creating useful and relevant content, and then distributing it through different channels. Content in this case can either be in form of text, audio, video or images. However, unlike other kinds of marketing, it does not entail direct selling.

Here are some great strategies that you can apply for content marketing.

1. Digital newsletters

Many businesses send their subscribers newsletters on a regular basis. Such newsletters can be useful for educating readers through offering helpful articles, industry news, as well as links to relevant web pages. In addition, they can also be useful for providing updates on new products or services.

2. Article marketing

This involves creating useful and relevant content on specific subjects, and then promoting it through different ways. Besides educating readers, such articles can be very useful for building credibility for the author, as well as creating awareness about a brand or business.

3. Email

Nowadays, many people ignore email in favor of other newer content marketing tactics. However, email still remains as one of the most effective strategies that any business can use for marketing their products or services. Sending messages through email is one of the best marketing tactics for ensuring a high conversion rate.

4. Infographics

As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.   As a result, infographics are becoming increasingly popular as a content marketing strategy. Infographics deliver information in a very precise way and can be shared easily on social networks.

5. Podcasts

Podcasts, which can either be in video or audio format, offer a great way of sharing useful and relevant information with your audience. They can be promoted and distributed widely through platforms such as iTunes.

6. Print newsletters

Printed newsletters have become increasingly sidelined in favor of their faster digital counterpart. However, this old form of content marketing can be used to compliment online promotion, especially when dealing with the older generation which might not be very technology-savvy.

7. Social content

Many people are carrying out marketing campaigns through content created specifically for LinkedIn, Google + and Twitter, among other social networks. If well planned and executed, such content can be very useful for engaging your audience and creating awareness about your brand or business.

8. News release

The format and distribution of press releases has evolved over the years. However, they still remain an effective way of sending information to journalists, as well as communicating directly with customers.

9. Real world events

Events such as industry trade shows or conferences offer a great opportunity for content marketing. This could be through offering material from speakers, interviewing industry leaders or even liveblogging during the event.

10. Mobile content

Nowadays, one of the easiest ways of reaching people is through their mobile phones. Many businesses are now promoting their products and services by creating content specifically targeted at mobile users.

Article marketing has been used by professionals for nearly as long as mass print has been available. A business provides content to a newspaper, possibly on a timely topic such as an article on tax audits during tax season, and the newspaper may use the article and include the business’s name and contact information. Newspapers and other traditional media have limited budgets for gathering content and these articles may be used in the business section of the newspaper.
